I received a wonderful letter from a reader who "got it." She'd felt alone, rejected, and surrounded by the enemy when she picked up my book because of its tropical setting because she'd been a missionary's daughter in such a place. Her heartfelt declaration that it was no coincidence that she picked this book lifted me as the message in the book lifted her. Why the author wrote this book:

I am constantly asked by readers of this book, when were you in the Amazon? The answer is that my desk chair is as close to the Amazon as I want to get. But I loved reading a wonderful journal by a lady doctor who went to the Peruvian Amazon on an eco-vacation and wound up starting a clinic for the Indians there. Her adventures and misadventures inspired me to write this book.
