Joanna's Adventure

By Mildred Colvin

Description:

Be careful what you ask for! Life in Cedar Bend, Kansas, has become one predictable day after another. Joanna Brady helps her father with his patients, smiles sweetly at her beau, and secretly chafes over the boredom of it all. She wonders, is this really all life is meant to be? Where is the romance? The adventure? And then one day she asks God to send her someone exciting and unpredictable...and dangerous.
Clay Shepherd has been on the road all his life, moving from one wrangler job to the next, never staying long enough to put down roots. Unexpected events draw him back to the one place - and one girl - he remembers fondly.
When Clay arrives in Cedar Bend, Joanna finds herself drawn to the charisma and excitement that surround him. But she knows he isn't a Christian and she shouldn't be unequally yoked. So why does she feel Clay might be the answer to her prayer?

Book Takeaway:

Mariah leaned farther out the window and tossed the yellow roses. They arched through the air and landed in Joanna's outstretched hands.
Mark Hopkins stepped close to Joanna and whispered in her ear, "Well, looks like we're next."
Am I supposed to consider myself engaged? Joanna backed away to look at Mark. She knew him well enough to know that this was more than likely his idea of a proposal. She could marry Mark and live with him the rest of her life - she could give birth to a dozen little Hopkinses - and never once hear a romantic phrase from his lips. She'd loaned him one of her romance novels hoping he would get the idea of a proper courtship. He said he'd read all he could stand before he finished the first chapter, and then he'd laughed. "Real men don't talk like that," he'd said. Mark was about as romantic as a stick.
Now she said, "I don't know, Mark. Catching the bouquet is just a silly tradition. I don't think it means anything, really."
Then without thinking of the consequences, she prayed, Please, Lord, bring a dashing, romantic adventurer into my life. Send me someone exciting and unpredictable and a tad dangerous.
