You will get lost in Over Her Head because the biggest adventure is falling in love.

Book Takeaway:

We all need each other to get through this life. And sometimes that means putting ourselves at risk to help other people.

Why the author wrote this book:

One issue that comes up in this book is human trafficking. It’s a big problem in our country that mostly goes unnoticed, but it’s happening everywhere, even in small towns. It hits Jessica particularly hard because in her past she made some bad decisions, and she realizes how easily she could have put herself in danger. When she and Austin run into a girl that needs their help, she jumps in. But it puts all of them at risk.

The other issue is one that has continued in the whole In the Shadow series. Jessica has grown up in the shadow of two hero brothers. Scott, the naval aviator, and Christopher, the football-star brother who died before she was born. She was the surprise baby for her parents and feels like she never quite lives up to her brothers’ achievements. And in the case of Christopher, how does she live up to a ghost? She has some lessons to learn about how she is unique and valuable just for who she is.

Austin struggles with his obligation to his family. His dad is suffering from dementia, and he feels a responsibility to help with his care. Between his responsibilities at work and his family, he’s not sure he has room in his life for Jessica. Part of the lesson he must learn is that having people who support you in your life isn’t optional.
