Mary Grace and the Clarview Girls

By Debra Burr Downing

Description:

Mary Grace’s world was turned upside down the summer her father was transferred to Canada. Life in Georgia was all she had ever known. Now, she would have to leave that world and all her friends behind. At sixteen that was not easy to do, but she did have a dream that meant everything to her. She wanted to become a Clarview girl, to attend that beautiful Canadian girls’ boarding school that looked like an English castle. Will the Canadian girls accept her as one of them? Will her parents understand why she wants this so much? And what about boys, an all girl’s school is not exactly the way to meet any guys, or is it?

Book Takeaway:

Readers of my book will understand how unexpected experiences that families go through can draw them together. Mary Grace realizes that it takes courage and faith to follow your dream especially when difficulties come. She learns how important it is not to give up. Readers will see how leaning into your faith can give you comfort and courage.

Why the author wrote this book:

My book was written as a tribute to my father, who passed away when I was 41. As I have continued to miss him, it has brought me peace and comfort to write about the wonderful relationship that we had as father and daughter. I selected this particular time in his life because it was a very significant time for him as he was selected by his company to be on the executive team that opened a new plant in Canada. At 15, I was old enough to realize what this promotion meant to him. Naturally, it also completely changed the life of our family, as we were taken from our familiar life in Georgia to a totally new adventure in Canada.
