Why the author wrote this book:

Candles in the Rain began with a heart for those who are abused, mistreated, and don't have a voice. It was very much influenced by a friend who started a maternity home in Mombasa, Kenya. Shawny's character developed from a curiosity about an era in our country I only experienced on the fringes. The idea of living in Christian community has always fascinated me.
