PROLOGUE
My mother was named Ana, after the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is no mention of St. Ann in the New Testament, but the stories about her could still be true.
There are many such accounts in the Apocrypha. For example, the Gospel of the Nativity of Mary, the Protoevangelium of James, and the bits and scraps I collected in this journal.
I was born on last day of the nineteenth century; now, I am about to see the first day of the new millennium. Yet my mind dwells firmly in testimonies set in faded ink on fragile papyrus, first given almost two thousand years ago.
