All of us have a specific belief system consisting of interrelated assumptions, opinions, ideas, and knowledge which guide and govern our attitudes about people, objects, religion, etc. These concepts form our world view or ideology and determine how we define and structure what we establish as “truth”. We’d like to think that the truths we hold to are based on actual fact but more often than not, our constructs are established by someone else’s viewpoint whether they be from our family, community, church, or some noteworthy expert in a particular discipline. Because of this, we tend to reject new ideas and concepts (particularly in religious doctrine) as heretical, even though those concepts are based upon factual evidence especially if they challenge our already established belief system.

The facts haven’t changed, only the divergent interpretation of those facts resulting from variations in the cultural, theological or ideological back-grounds of the participants. It is these disparate viewpoints and not the facts themselves that incite controversy. If we are able to set aside our perceptions of the facts, just for a moment, then these truths - in particular, the truths of Scripture become evident to all. ....... (Continued)
