Mystery Mountain

It is raining again as Sheriff Leo Beauregard watches peacefully from the old rocking chair on his porch. He had been busy all day trying to catch varmints that had infiltrated Raincroft and were doing graffiti all over town.
He was wondering how that young Jess Judd was able to again elude him at the top of that darned mountain. Leo had seen him go up the hill, but he vanished. His Hummer would only go to the turnaround, but to try to go on up the narrow path would mean certain death from a three hundred foot fall over the cliff.
His silly deputy, Homer Newman, crossed his mind. Homer wasn't dumb, just unlearned. His fear of a safety pin was always a chuckle.
His mind switched to the Woods People who came into his office to report another Big Foot sighting. This time the big bearded creature was throwing wood up on an old widow lady's roof that had been taken off by the wind.
As he began to relax, he could hear an owl screeching through the rain. It was as if the whole earth was bidding him good night.
