Both Sides of Grace

By Angela Clark Logan

Description:

Marci has always been most comfortable with life when she has a good set of rules to follow. Most people who know her well have learned to love her in spite of her legalistic approach to everything from faith to relationships. Now, Marci is a divorced mother of three. Her life is falling apart, and she is beginning to question all of her strict “rules.”

Sometimes rules just don’t work, and Marci sees the role they played in the disintegration of her marriage. Her strict conformity to what she believes are the rules of faith and relationships have prevented her from experiencing the true happiness and peace God wants her to have.

When Marci learns the hard way that life isn’t always black and white, she discovers something even better: grace. Before she can learn to give grace to the people around her, she must first learn to receive God’s grace for herself. As she learns to allow God to guide her, she finds happiness, renewed relationships, and a faith stronger than ever before.

Book Takeaway:

Grace must be received before it can be given, but once that happens, it changes everything in wonderful ways.

Why the author wrote this book:

I have spent a good portion of my life living bound by legalism. Every thought, every action, every decision was once tied up in this idea that there was a “right” way to do everything. There was a “right” way to do faith, to love my spouse, to discipline my kids. There was a “right” way to read the Bible and understand the love of God. I understand the weariness that comes from trying to obtain righteousness through rule-keeping.
But God did not ask us to join him in a pursuit of perfectly met expectations; he asked us to join him in a relationship governed by grace. My hope for this narrative is that it will encourage readers to press into the idea of grace and allow the grace of Christ to transform their own lives.
