To Love Someone

By Claire Nance

Description:

It's 1970, and fifteen-year-old Dee Anderson wants two things in life: a boyfriend who’s immune to her older sister’s charms and a spot on the varsity twirler line. But Slate Garrett, Lindell High’s football hero and girl magnet, isn’t the boyfriend Dee had in mind. Will she let her lack of self-confidence and social anxiety keep her from giving Slate a chance when he wants to get to know her better? Will her sister, Carol, keep her hands off Slate if Dee decides to come out of her shell? And if Dee doesn’t make twirler…what then? You don’t want to miss what happens in this first novel in The Lindell High School Series by Claire Nance.

Book Takeaway:

Trusting God builds self-confidence and forgiving others allows relationships to flourish.

Why the author wrote this book:

When my two sons were in junior high, the same junior high my husband and I went to, it brought back many memories. Especially how afraid I was of everyone and everything. I hadn’t much faith in God at that time—I thought He was too busy to bother with someone like me. I wanted other girls who might be as shy and anxious at that age to realize that God did care about them and that meditating on His promises would help replace fear with faith. I learned that firsthand when I was diagnosed with panic disorder several years ago. Meditating on verses that told me not to be afraid calmed my racing thoughts and reminded me that God was with me. I had my main character, Dee Anderson, use Scripture to help ease her anxiety over twirler tryouts and included an Appendix with a list of Scripture references for my readers.
