Mackinac (Great Lakes Romances) (Volume 1)

By Donna Winters

Description:

This premier title in the Great Lakes Romances series takes readers to Mackinac Island, Michigan, in the year 1895. There, the prestigious resort, Grand Hotel, offers an opulent setting for Victorian romance. Victoria Whitmore, a 20-year-old Grand Rapids, Michigan, native, travels to the island on a mission to rescue her father's furniture manufacturing business from certain financial ruin. Grand Hotel owes the Whitmore's money, and Victoria vows not to leave the island until every penny is paid. However, she has not counted on the elusive and manipulative nature of Rand Bartlett, the hotel manager. Accustomed to challenges and bent on making the struggling Grand Hotel a success, Rand Bartlett has not counted on the challenge of Victoria, and he certainly has not counted on losing his heart to her.

Book Takeaway:

Financial ruin and deadly storms cannot keep a determined Victorian miss from accomplishing her mission and finding lasting love when she least expects it.

Why the author wrote this book:

I wrote Mackinac to highlight the wonderfully romantic nature of this old-fashioned island upon which no automobiles are allowed to run, and to introduce readers to the elegance of Grand Hotel, built in the 1880's and expanded several times since its late Victorian origin.
