Why the author wrote this book:

I wanted a modern-day suspense story based on John Milton's scene in Paradise Lost in which Satan visits Earth to tempt man--by offering "a gift of life and knowledge" that was in fact the gift of death. ("You shall not surely die.") What would it look like for a killer to find such a "gift?" The twisted thinking of the killer represents mankind who will not see the truth of Satan's death vs. God's gift of life--if we'll only accept it.
