The Sword

By Bryan M. Litfin

Description:

Four hundred years in the future a deadly virus and colossal nuclear war have destroyed the modern world. Surviving societies have returned to a chivalrous age of swords and horses. The breathtaking mountain kingdom of Chiveis lives in peace, protected from the outside world and obedient to its own gods. Though a noble civilization has emerged, Christianity has been forgotten--until a mysterious book is found. When an army scout and a beautiful farmer's daughter discover an ancient copy of the Bible, everything starts to change in Chiveis. As old beliefs give way to new faith, a small group of believers encounters fierce persecution--and some of the kingdom's darkest secrets.

Book Takeaway:

God is sovereign over all the plans of men, and his Word abides forever despite the attempts of any culture to exclude it.

Why the author wrote this book:

On one level, I understand it is entertainment. People will pick up my book to be carried away to a mythical land, to be caught up in an epic story. I respect that, and want to deliver it to my readers.

At the same time, I want the book to convey important biblical and theological truths, not in a preachy way, but through the artistry of narrative. The main themes are the sovereignty of the Creator God, his goodness, his refusal to tolerate sin, and man’s need to bow before him.
