The book is a collection of Cozy Mysteries with no intrinsic message; however, there is also a foreword and an afterword alerting the reader to the plight of the children for whose benefit it is published. Why the author wrote this book:Like most Cozy authors, I write my humorous mysteries to give readers a short respite from a difficult world. When I learned of the plight of Mexican children in the Texas internment camp, I was horrified and eager to bring them small comforts and what help I could, just as your church and mine send small pretty practical gifts to earthquake victims. But I was not permitted to help. The immigration authorities forbid gifts, visitors, and basic necessities like toothpaste to these children. Not even the Red Cross can gain access to help them. I discovered that four year olds are literally torn from their mothers' arms and locked up, ALONE, in empty wire cages, without even a toy to hug. They are worse treated than Zoo animals. I had to do SOMETHING. I'm a writer, so I wrote a satire. And I gathered up 9 other authors and we each wrote a story to be published to earn money to donate to the legal services non-profit which strives to free these children from the camp, because until they have been released, no help can reach them. As soon as this book is published, I shall gather up more authors and publish another. I am writing a screenplay to highlight what's happening to these poor kids. And I shall never stop trying to help these poor children and raise awareness of their desperate situation until they are freed. #nokidsincages #dontlookaway |
