Wonders in the Deep

By Columba Booth

Description:

Attorney Audrey Beach is about to overcome the memory of her father’s rejection, once and for all. Making partner is right around the corner—plus, she has an interview with California’s biggest personal injury outfit. Meanwhile, she anticipates holding the arrogant Dr. Taylor accountable for the mistake that almost killed a friend’s daughter.
But when her brother goes to prison and she becomes guardian of his children, the validation she craves may elude her. Kids, it turns out, are a lot of work.
She hires a nanny to keep her career on life-support. It almost works—until the nanny calls during Dr. Taylor’s deposition. Audrey’s nephew won’t get up for school. Recognizing the boy’s symptoms from Dr. Taylor’s comments, Audrey rushes her nephew to the hospital. There, his devastating diagnosis forces her to choose between career-fueled validation and love.

Book Takeaway:

No matter how things look, choosing the way of biblical love is always best.

Why the author wrote this book:

I’d love to say my first novel was forged in the depths of trials and polished by overcoming faith. It sort of was, but mostly, Wonders in the Deep was an exercise. I wanted to finish a novel at last.
A single mom for twenty years, I had started many novels and finished none. My kids, not my writing, were my ministry.
Then came Paul, with his gentle eyes, strong shoulders, and brilliant engineer mind.
“You should write,” he said, soon after our wedding. “I’ll do the cooking.”
What a dreamboat!
So I buckled down and developed a cast of characters, a rough plot, and a writing schedule. Three years later, I had a finished manuscript. I was blessed to meet my publisher at an ACFW conference, and the novel was published a few months later.
