The Breaking DawnBy Marcus ColesDescription:
It is the first century AD and the iron grip of the Roman Empire is tightening around the lands of the Great Sea. Varius is a young Roman soldier, satisfied with his comfortable life in the Eternal City. When he is thrust from the family home, he ends up on a ship bound for Egypt. Here he will garrison the coastal town of Alexandria under the shadow of Pharos and the Great Library. Book Takeaway:I want people to take away from the novel an interest in the lives of ordinary people at the time of Christ and how their triumphs and challenges are not that different from our own. Why the author wrote this book:A few years ago I had an idea to write a series of short stories about people who might have had a fleeting encounter with Jesus. I wanted to write about how that encounter, no matter how small, could have affected the lives of ordinary people. Eventually this mustard-seed of an idea developed into the idea to write a novel in which the stories of several main characters all intertwine. They all encounter Jesus somehow, but their reactions to him are very different. Once I'd written it, I was persuaded that due to its length, it would work better as a trilogy. The Breaking Dawn is the first instalment in the series. |
