A Promise ForgedBy Cara C. PutmanDescription:
When Kat Miller first tires out for the All-American Girls Professional Softball League, she thinks how exciting it would be to get paid to play the game she loves. But then she actually makes a team. She struggles with long road trips, grueling practices, and the challenge of making time for God. Not only that, but older teammates are jealous of her success and an irritating reporter, Jack Raymond, has a knack for getting under Kat's skin. Why the author wrote this book:When I was looking for a third story hook for the Ohio World War II series, I did a lot of research, but couldn't find anything that got me excited. Then I stumbled across the website for the All American Girls Professional Softball/Baseball League. I'm not a baseball fan -- football is more my speed. But as soon as I started digging around the AAGPS/BL website, I knew I'd found my story. I spent time at the league's archives, and read many books on the subject. It ended up being a blast to write about a group of women doing something unheard of for their time. |
