The Quirky Quiz Show Caper

By Sally Carpenter

Description:

Book 4 in the Sandy Fairfax Teen Idol mystery series
Former pop star Sandy Fairfax is a guest panelist on a rigged TV game show--and the first category is murder! When Sandy's kid brother, Warren, is framed for killing a college student, he sets out to track down the thug. After all, Sandy played a detective once on a TV show. Meanwhile, he's also visiting his kids; fighting with his ex; wooing his new girlfriend; getting back on speaking terms with Warren, and convincing his parents that he should be the star entertainment at a black tie gala fundraiser for his father's faltering orchestra. The book was revised into a clean read in 2020. New print and ebooks will have the changes; old used print copies will not.

Book Takeaway:

How tragedy (murder, economic need, threat of job loss) can pull a family together

Why the author wrote this book:

The book concludes the story arc started in book 2 of Sandy reconciling with his estranged family. The black tie benefit is typical of the many big ticket fundraisers in Southern California where I live, and I also wanted to write a story about the sprawling, multi-million-dollar estates found in SoCal. The gala itself wasn't enough to fill out an entire book, so I added the game show, which was inspired, of course, by the movie "Quiz Show" and the 1950s scandal in which some games shows were rigged to favor certain contestants.
