Why the author wrote this book:

At first I began writing to escape the injustice and depravity I saw around me on the mission field in Mexico. Much of it, I could do nothing about. I needed a way to process the pain of it, but also a way to direct the ending ... to have the story of someone's life find redemption and freedom. SOMETHING I AM NOT is that story.
