Just Friends

By Roger E. Bruner

Description:

Sixteen-year-old Cassie detests her muffin top. But how can she lose those nineteen pounds? She loves eating too much.

Inspired by a Bible study about making the body a fit temple for the Holy Spirit, she convinces her scrawny best friend, Jason, to help her develop a simple weight loss program. One that God surely won't mind her also using to attract a great prom date and maybe even a boyfriend.

Jason is crazy about Cassie, but he's afraid of ruining their special friendship by telling her how he feels about her. Helping her lose weight to attract some other boy? Not an appealing prospect. What can he do?

Mandy, the preacher's daughter, comes up with a solution. Jason should send Cassie romantic notes--as her secret admirer. What a great idea!

But, as the old poem says, "there's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip."

Will Jason and Cassie end up together? And will Mandy end up with the boy she wants?

Book Takeaway:

God loves us just as we are. We should love one another the same way. At the same time, we owe the Hold Spirit a worthy dwelling place. That's easier for some people than for others. But if the motivation is proper, losing weight--or doing anything else worthwhile--is more apt to be successful.

Why the author wrote this book:

I'd fought my weight problems for a number of years. If I'd learned my lesson sooner, I probably wouldn't have ended up with diabetes. So I've very conscious of and concerned about the large number of overweight people I see daily--people of all ages. I wish I could do something to help them, but I can't.

I didn't write this book to preach to overweight teens or adults, but to share a whimsical romantic story about motivation, self-perception, and relationships--with the weight issue just being an important part of the glue holding the story together.
