Why the author wrote this book:

I wanted to write a story about urequited love--about a boy who loved a girl who always thought of him as just a friend. I wanted to write about a man longing for a sense of home. Longing for someone to love him. Longing (or trying not to long for!) that woman who had rejected him in the past.
