Elvis Takes a Back Seat

By Leanna Ellis

Description:

A young widow, determined to fulfill her husband’s last request, hauls a three foot bust of Elvis strapped in the back seat of a vintage Cadillac from Texas to Memphis to return it to its rightful owner. The road trip with her eccentric aunt, who knew the King of Rock n’ Roll, and a temperamental teen, hits roadblocks and detours as the three women uncover pieces of their own past along with the bust’s mysterious history. The discoveries change the course of their lives forever.

Book Takeaway:

This book is a book of hope. It speaks to people of all walks of life. To those who have it all together and those who don’t. To those who are stuck and need the courage to take a new path. To those who have drifted away from God and need to find their way back to Him. Taking a step of faith is never easy.

Why the author wrote this book:

I’ve never lost my husband. I don’t have a cherry red vintage Cadillac. And I don’t have an Elvis bust. That came from my husband’s friend who does actually own the bust. I exaggerated it for the book, made it larger so it would sit higher in the back seat of the Cadillac. But I think the heart of the book, the taking someone’s memory off a pedestal and remembering them as a real person, not romanticized, the ‘idol’ aspect of the novel I understood very well. Because I realized in my own writing that my career was my idol. So I had to sacrifice my writing on the altar and give it all over to God. I’m not sure I saw that when I was writing the book because I was living it out at the time. But looking back, I can see the correlations clearly.
