Snow Out of Season

By Christy Brunke

Description:

Two pregnant women separated by time . . . Are they more connected than they know?

Shannon Henry is just starting to put her life back together after the death of her infant daughter when she discovers she’s pregnant again. Afraid of losing another child, at first she hides the news from her husband Wade. When her doctor presents her with the choice of either raising a child with Down syndrome or terminating the pregnancy, Shannon is torn.

Then things strangely start going missing—their wedding picture, a bracelet with charms for their three children, Wade’s clothes on the floor which she’s always complained about. And why is she having nightmares about losing her husband?

Leslie Gardner is a high-school senior in 1979 who dreams of becoming a professional ballerina, but she discovers she is pregnant too. If she has the child, her chances of a dancing career and college are over, but her friend shows her another option. If she secretly has an abortion like her boyfriend wants, her problems will be over and her life can go on as planned.

While Shannon wrestles with her sanity, Leslie struggles with whether or not to tell her parents. Each must make a decision that could change both the future and the past forever.

Book Takeaway:

I’d like readers to understand that though life sometimes doesn’t turn out how we’d hoped it would, sometimes it turns out better. I want wives to appreciate all their husbands are instead of focusing on all they’re not. But most of all, I’d like people to ponder the uniqueness of each unborn life and, perhaps, make a different choice.

Why the author wrote this book:

As a teen and young adult, I longed for a God-scripted love story and devoured books like Passion & Purity by Elisabeth Elliot and When Dreams Come True by Eric & Leslie Ludy. Realizing my Creator knew me better than anyone, and knew every man as well, I asked Him to choose my husband.

And He did. Mark complements me perfectly and has been an incredible blessing not only to me, but to so many others.

However, when my mother-in-law was pregnant with him, her circumstances would’ve led many women to have an abortion. I started wondering what my life would’ve been like if she’d made a different choice.

From thence sprang Snow Out of Season, the dual stories of two women of two generations who struggle with the same problem: Is the child each carries worthy of life? What will it cost to keep the child? What will happen if each decides not to?
