Courting Miss AdelaideBy Janet DeanDescription:
The “orphan train” seemed like small-town spinster Adelaide Crum’s last chance to know the simple joys of family life. So many lost children, every one of them dreaming only of a caring home—the home she longed to offer. And yet the narrow-minded town elders refused to entrust even the most desperate child to a woman alone…. Book Takeaway:To find happiness and be at peace with God and ourselves, we must first forgive others as we've been forgiven. Awards:
Why the author wrote this book:I was fascinated by the placing out of New York City's orphans from 1853 to 1929 when more than 250,000 immigrant children living on its streets and in its orphanages rode trains to new homes. I wanted to explore the outcomes for these children and the families who took them in. I discovered the hero and heroine's pasts had a lot to teach me and hopefully my readers about God's provision and His unconditional love. |
