Seeing Things

By Patti Ann Hill

Description:

Birdie Wainwright see things--purple flowers growing out of floors and alpine slopes where her stairs ought to be. But she's not worried. It's just her macular degeneration acting up. No vision is going to stop this tango-loving grandmother! She welcomes the vivid colors and surprises into her life and goes on her merry way, hiking the high country of Colorado with her dog, Miss Bee Haven, and keeping the local diner supplied with sumptuous pies.

Then, one day, she sidesteps an imaginary boulder--and tumbles down the stairs. The bad news? A broken ankle. The worse news? She must convalescence at her son't home, under the harsh eye of her daughter-in-law. And that's when Birdies' visions really take flight.

And form.

And voice.

For there in her room , bold as brass, sits the legendary Huck Finn. But he doesn't just appear. He listens. And speaks! As Birdie and Huck explore the complexities of life, she discovers more than she imagined possible about love, family, reconciliation--and hearing from God in unexpected, albeit utterly delightful, ways.

Book Takeaway:

We are called to love the people God has given us to love...and to forgive.

Why the author wrote this book:

I listened to a podcast about a man with retinitis pigmentosa who hallucinated a literary character after listening to a novel.I considered that premise ripe with possibilities.
