The Induction

By Melinda Louise Bohannon

Description:

Maggie comes to the frightening realization that, by marrying Peter, she has become a member of The Inner Society. She then finds herself subjected to an intense induction in which she is forced to prove her allegiance in order to get off their hit list. Meanwhile she is also being tested by The Resistance, dissidents of The I.S. who wonder if she will jeopardize their cause with her reckless rebellion. Kristy has been suffering from a damaged home life.  Kevin tries to reach out to her, but she has become withdrawn. Conrad continues his harassment of Maggie and she discovers he’s been hired as an informant against her.  When she rebuffs him, Conrad spites her by turning his attention to Kristy.  Maggie tries to warn her, but Kristy adores Conrad and will not listen. Kristy eventually finds the courage to break up with Conrad after he is continually unfaithful, but, by then, she’s lost her relationship with her father, her innocence, and her friends.  He moves on to other girls before she comes to the devastating realization that she’s pregnant.  Conrad, knowing her pregnancy will cost him his I.S. scholarship, forces her into an abortion.  Kristy is traumatized by the experience and ends up in the hospital after a suicide attempt.  Kevin is devastated and finds himself unable to forgive her.  Kristy learns that she cannot change her past, but she can go forward, finding hope again with Christ as her rock. As The I.S. begins secretly giving vaccines to their own people, The Resistance becomes privy to an impending biological attack that The I.S. is about to wage against the country.  The I.S. intends to increase their ratio and later gain the favor of the nation by announcing they have a vaccine that will save the populace.
