Southern Fried Sushi: A Novel

By Jennifer Rogers Spinola

Description:

Ride the roller coaster of Shiloh Jacobs’s life as her dreams derail, sending her on a downward spiral from the heights of an AP job in Tokyo to penniless in rural Virginia. Trapped in a world so foreign to her sensibilities and surrounded by a quirky group of friends, will she break through her hardened prejudices before she loses those who want to help her? Can she find the key to what changed her estranged mother’s life so powerfully before her death that she became a different woman—and can it help Shiloh too? (20110727)

Book Takeaway:

I hope readers can encounter God's love even in chaotic circumstances that seem to make no sense.

Why the author wrote this book:

I wrote this book after moving to Brazil from Japan and thinking of all the (often hilarious) blunders a city girl might make if she grew up in *my* tiny hometown - the opposite of what I did. I also wanted to write a book with flawed, imperfect characters who, like us, get up on the wrong side of the bed, say the wrong things, and still show God's redemption.

Reviews

"A well-written novel with a cast of likable characters, and some very funny scenes that preaches a clear gospel message without saccharine sermonising - the best type of Christian novel."
