Homesick

By Dave Pratt

Description:

Leah McCarthy, a covert operator reporting to the State Department’s Extreme Operations Group (EOG) and member of the Home Team, is on a much-needed vacation when she steps into the middle of a double active shooter incident at her favorite hometown grocery store. Relying on her unique skills, training and physical abilities, she stops the shooters, but not before two little girls and too many store patrons and staff are left wounded and dying. Fleeing the scene to protect her covert identity, Leah finds herself facing the soul-shattering effects of mission-fatigue and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms triggered by the active shooter incident.

Emotionally vulnerable yet suspicious that the active shooter attack was more than a one-off incident, Leah pushes through her PTSD symptoms, calls on her deep faith in God, and steels herself for battle. With the help of her three Home Team teammates, the EOG’s psychologist, and local Coffee County Investigator GW Weise, Leah tracks down a terrorist organization responsible for planning a nationwide active shooter attack, battling the terrorist group’s agents every step of the way. And just when she thinks she has a handle on things, she uncovers yet another conspiracy even more lethal than the first.

Will Leah be able to rally and refocus her covert operator skills to stop the terrorists? Will the blossoming relationship between Leah and the Coffee County Investigator get in the way? And can she overcome the lingering effects of a decade spent fighting for her country and her own life to do what she needs to do as one of the nation’s best, top-tier operators and woman of strong faith?

Book Takeaway:

A few faith-driven individuals can make a difference, at the personal level when one of their own is in distress, and against major social issues, through understanding, commitment and action.

Why the author wrote this book:

Active shooter incidents are a major concern in our society, and the problem is not going away. But what if it was more? What if the incidents are somehow linked together? Can already-stretched law enforcement resources make a difference? That is the premise of this book.
