Love Amid the AshesBy Mesu AndrewsDescription:When scandal and murder rock Dinah’s life, the daughter of the great patriarch Jacob is sent away to Job’s household. After Job’s own world comes crashing down, Dinah finds herself drawn to this great man brought low. What will she risk to fight for his survival? Book Takeaway:I hope, when readers turn the last page, they realize suffering isn’t God’s way of pounding people. It’s His way of turning the enemy’s evil plans into good – shaping us and revealing Himself. Though Job asks “why” repeatedly, God never reveals the cosmic reason for Job’s afflictions. He reveals only Job’s frailty in the shadow of an Almighty God. But Job doesn’t cower in terror as one would expect if Job thought of God as a celestial Bully. Instead, Job shows wonder and obedience. That’s the way I hope readers will view God after reading this book – with wonder and a desire to obey Him because of love, not fear. Why the author wrote this book:At first, it was just curiosity. I searched a myriad of Bible commentaries to find out if any named Job’s wife. There are certain mysterious women mentioned in Scripture that are made even more mysterious by their anonymity. Job’s wife is one of those women. As I delved further into Job’s story, I became more intrigued with his attitude – and God’s response to his attitude. I have struggled with fibromyalgia since 1997 and daily migraines since 2005, so I know a little bit about suffering. As I let Scripture teach me, I learned some encouraging truths about God’s intimate relationship with those who suffer. |
