Slow Love

By Paula K. Parker

Description:

Saturdays are a special time for Mary. Her family spends the whole day with Grandma and Grandpa. They go on adventures, play games and experience the beauty of the world. But the best part of the day is bedtime, when Mary and Grandpa share stories together.

Tonight, Mary wants Grandpa to tell her a story about Slow Love, the kind that fills your heart and makes you walk very, very slow.

Grandpa uses this opportunity to tell Mary the story of when Jesus walked very slowly up the hill of Calvary.

Book Takeaway:

Explaining the love and sacrifice of Jesus to a child.

Why the author wrote this book:

SLOW LOVE was inspired by a time spent with my then 8-year old daughter Mary. She had joined me early one morning before her siblings woke. We sat quietly, enjoying each other's presence, when she said,

"Mama, I love slow love."

Certain I had misunderstood, I asked what 'slow love' was.

She responded, "It's when a child and mommy or daddy love each other so much that they slow down."

"Oh." We sat quietly for another moment, and then I said, "Mary, I know Someone Who loved you so much that He walked very slow."

Her eyes widened, "Who?"

"It was Jesus." Mary was already familiar with Who Jesus is and His sacrifice, but I continued, "Jesus loved you so much that He walked slowly up the hill to Calvary."

"Wow." Mary sat quietly for a minute and then said, "I am thankful that Jesus loved me 'slow' much."

I felt the Lord speak in my heart, "There's your story."

I wrote the story within half an hour. It took 20 years to find Breanna King Butterworth to illustrate the book.
