Why the author wrote this book:

In reading through Foxe's Book of Martyrs I came across the amazing story of the Theban Legion and was stunned that no one had written their story. I told my author friend Susan Wales about it, and we agreed that it was a historical romance waiting to happen, so we fictionalized parts of it to weave it all together, and voila! Valeria's Cross was the result.
