Interview With Jerah Alvarado

What made you want to become an author?

My love of books led me into a wonderful daydream where I splashed words together to create worlds of escape for readers.

What did you learn while writing Would You Rather?

Publishing requires a lot of patience. It’s been a long journey with rocky lows, but also high altitudes where the air is thinner, and it takes more effort to breathe.

What is the toughest part of writing a children’s book?

For me, it was finding an illustrator.

If someone were to look at your Google search history (all for research of course!), what types of things would we find?

Right now, I’m road trippin’. Anyone searching my history could trail me. As we pass towns that catch my eye, I Google landmarks, origin of names, and things to do there even if don’t intend to stop by.

If you could have coffee with an author, dead or alive, whose work you admire, who would that be? What would you ask him or her?

Ughh! so many! I’d love to have coffee with Jaime Jo Wright in person just to laugh and talk about everything bookish or writing. Also, Lisa Wingate, though that conversation is way too personal and considered top secret.

What’s your go-to drink while writing?

About 89.99% of the time, it’s coffee.

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

The person with the most power to clip your wings is you.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not writing?

Spending time with my family, but also connecting with other authors.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The two I’m most eager to start are Weaving Roots by Heather Wood, and Something Borrowed by Rachel Scott McDaniel, Allison Pittman, and Susie Finkbeiner.

What can we look forward to next?

The next segment of Would You Rather, releasing June 2025!
