John Butler’s estranged father claims to have become a Christian a few months before he dies. This claim causes John to examine his own life, haunted as it is by his upbringing, and by the neglectful decisions his father made while John was growing up. In an unexpected encounter with a “messenger,” John is given the opportunity to go back in time and change some of his father’s past decisions. He does so, in hopes of creating for himself the childhood he feels he’s always deserved. Along the way, he learns that changing God’s plan for one’s life carries unexpected consequences.
