Love Ain't No Soap Opera (The Shadybrook Series) (Volume 1)

By Connie Kuykendall

Description:

Ahh, soap opera . . . the land where women are strong, cherished, and cellulite-free, loved ones are never really dead, and irritating people can be recast.

If there is one lesson that Selah Morgan has learned from years of watching daytime drama, it’s that life is more exciting if you are young, rich, and skinny. Praying for that kind of life, the thirty-something fears she’ll suffocate if she can’t escape her hick hometown, Shadybrook, Virginia, her plus-size body, her failing business, and her feuding parents.

It’s almost too good to be true when she wins a trip to New York City and the opportunity to be the “SoaperFan” for her favorite show, The Winds of Change, as part of a publicity stunt. As she and troubled soap hunk, Cane Ashton, work together to save the struggling soap from cancellation, can she trust his growing affections or will her insecurities and her meddling momma cost her a dream job and a chance at love in the afternoon?

Why the author wrote this book:

When I read, I seek heroines I can identify with. Unfortunately, I don't see myself in many books. Not just because I'm goofy and weird, but because few heroines are plus-size, full-figured, curvy. Most plus-size characters only find happiness upon losing weight. You won't find them on book covers either. No evidence of ladies of size being held, kissed, loved.
Isn't that sad? That message makes me feel less than human, unworthy, unlovable. And that couldn't be farther from the truth, especially in God's eyes, because true beauty isn't found in the mirror. Cane and Selah feel unlovable, broken. They come from very different backgrounds, but, as the story unfolds, they realize how similar they are in their struggles and how much they need love and acceptance from each other and God.
