Mary's Perfume

By Rebecca D. Bruner

Description:

Mary of Bethany was one of Jesus most ardent followers. She had even risked her sister Martha’s anger, in order to sit at His feet and drink in His captivating words. When her beloved brother, Lazarus, falls deathly ill, Mary begs Jesus to come quickly, confident that He will heal him, but Jesus never shows up. Mary’s severe disappointment leads to a crisis of faith. What will it take for her to overcome her deep disillusionment with Jesus and consider Him worthy of the greatest gift she has to offer?

Book Takeaway:

We all experience seasons of disappointment with God, times when what He allows seems to make no sense. Only when we recognize that He has a far better plan than anything we could imagine, do we come to understand that He truly is worthy of all that we hold most precious.

Why the author wrote this book:

While reading Mary's story in the Bible, I realized that the perfume she used to anoint Jesus was her most precious possession, too precious to use even for her brother Lazarus' burial. The kind of selfless sacrifice she displays in pouring it out as an offering to the Lord is the heart of true worship, and the reason her story is worth remembering and telling to every generation.
