Why the author wrote this book:

I wanted to show the capacity of fallible human beings to change when influenced by true love, both between a man and a woman and the truest love of all, the love God has for us. At the beginning of the story, my heroine, Prissy, is an impulsive, occasionally selfish girl in love with love, and my hero is a dishonest gambler just looking to find a rich pretty wife and set himself up for a comfortable life. Both characters change vastly by the end of the book.
