Awakening the Light: The Stronghold of Enjanan Book 1
Description:
An Epic Fantasy of Faith and Courage
In a world that spins around the Eternal Light, Shay’s people are in peril. The mysterious Nahil are seducing the four kingdoms with promises of prosperity, bringing chaos and darkness with them.
Shay has always felt invisible – a dependable son overshadowed by his brilliant siblings. But when Shay's formidable sister falls victim to the Nahil’s schemes, it's time for his dormant gifts to awaken, and his faith to be tested.
Will Shay embrace the light, or lose everyone he loves to the shadows?
Awakening the Light is the first book in The Stronghold of Enjanan – A Coming of Age fantasy series for Young Adult readers navigating a world of seductive quick fixes and pressure to conform, ready to discover that grace breaks through even the deepest shadows. Perfect for those who've outgrown The Wingfeather Saga, The Green Ember or Narnia and want the epic scope of The Lord of the Rings without witchcraft and without compromises.
Book Takeaway:
‘Your gift was given for a reason. Continue to train, ensuring that light inhabits your soul. Allow no impurity there, or the light may extinguish.’
Why the author wrote this book:
Jesus is the Light of the World. When He said those words, He meant them in a metaphorical sense, and yet He is also the Word at the beginning — the one through whom all things were created.
As I began to consider writing a book for younger readers — something page-turningly exciting, full of action and adventure but featuring characters who wrestle with real temptations and need to discover God’s grace — I began to picture somewhere where the light wasn't just metaphorical, but literal. Where the Creator resided in the centre of a world that spun around Him. A world where the people started off in the light, but soon rejected it and fled outwards to the darker reaches. Centuries on from that exodus, we meet a family trying desperately to live in the light while all around them succumbs to shadow.
I want to equip young people — and older ones — with a modern allegory that makes them long to be present with Jesus, the Light of the World. From that longing, the Stronghold of Enjanan series was born.
